Your instructors are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Apex Cycle Education.
Apex’s MSF certified Street Rider Course (SRC) consists of street riding activities designed to complement basic skills for a licensed rider, whether new or experienced. This course expands the visual and mental skills used in the BRC with real-time application in traffic. The focus of the SRC is on techniques and strategies for identifying and responding properly to potential hazards in order to more effectively manage risk. The SRC is a natural extension of courses completed in an off-street riding area. It is coupled with further development of a fundamental principle underlying the MSF Basic RiderCourse -- managing risk through personal responsibility.
The on-street coaching is limited to three riders with one instructor, or four riders with two instructors. This program allows riders to further hone their skills by combining riding techniques along with key strategies in a real-world, on-road environment. Students will be “coached” in real time by expert instructors using one-way radios (provided by Apex). This training enables riders to immediately apply techniques that can sharpen their motorcycle handling, matching gears to speed, throttle control, cornering, and braking skills, as well as implement visual strategies – in other words, learning how to scan and “read” the road ahead while paying attention to what’s going on all around ( 360 degree awareness).
The design of this program revolves around risk management strategies. The objective is to provide an efficient way to learn new skills, eliminate unsafe habits, and offer fundamental strategies to avoid crashing – it is not about speed. Stated another way, the ultimate goal is to engage riders in an effort to avoid crashes. Through example, instructors will demonstrate these principles.
Street Legal; Proof of Registration and Insurance; Current Inspection; Written Permission of Motorcycle Owner if not owned by Student; Pass Instructor Visual, Safety Inspection.
In addition personal motorcycles must be conducive to street training, particularly with respect to the decibel level of the exhaust system. It is also important that the motorcycle used for training be compatible with the use of radios (no produce radio interference).
Must be a licensed, motorcycle operator, and demonstrate overall motorcycle control by passing a qualifying skill assessment on the motorcycle they will be using in the course. The skills evaluated include a slow ride, right turns from a stop, and left/right-hand curves with a stop.
Required Riding Gear: Protective clothing includes minimum of....
DOT Full-face (modular/flip-up helmets acceptable) or 3/4 helmet.
Motorcycle riding jacket (motorcycle riding mesh jacket is OK),
Motorcycle riding pants (kevlar jeans, leather chaps or mesh pants are OK),
Full-fingered gloves (preferably leather), and
Sturdy, over-the-ankle footwear.
